The Gifted - Pilot

Much in the same way that Star Trek Discovery shows the grubby and dark side of the Federation, The Gifted shows what it's like to be a  mutant who is not under the protection of Charles Xavier. It's not a fresh take on the 'government hunting mutants' trope but it's a situation that makes it rich for strong story ideas.

Wisely they gave our mutants powers that are cheap to replicate as a special effect, especially in a dark or raining backgrounds. The story requires very little set-up before the action begins.

Things move quickly and the story has a nice twist. The man who hunts mutants has two mutant children himself and that raises the stakes and the tension and that is the kind of mood I want in a Mutants vs The Man story. It was much simpler for newbies to get into than the continuity rich Inhumans. I also enjoyed the cliffhanger ending and will be back for more. A solid effort with appealing actors in the leads.

The trailer pretty much fills you in on all you need to know about the characters and the situation.

Yeah, it's always different when it's your OWN kids, eh? Then all parental right-wing knee-jerk reactions to things like abortion, homosexuality, transgender, or as here, mutant powers, take on a whole new perspective. As they should!

I hope he doesn't get forgiven so easily and has to suffer some consequences for his actions.

She will have green hair. Just one streak. I like her powers and her anger just like her father. They all know what it is like to be hunted.
